Red-shouldered Hawk, Willamina, Oregon

Today this Red-shouldered Hawk was so intent on finding something to eat in the grassy fence row below his perch that he hardly seemed to notice I was there, sitting in my truck about 50 ft. away.  Click on the photo to enlarge.

Peregrine Falcon, banded maybe?

Today, which happens to be my birthday, I came out of my office at lunchtime and noticed three Crows scolding a Peregrine Falcon which was perched in the Black Walnut tree directly above my office.  Against a  bright cloudy sky, it was difficult to photograph, but here is what I got.  In the bottom photo I think I might see a band on the left leg.  Do you think so?

Brown Pelican (deceased)

This adult (dead) Brown Pelican was found in the jumble of driftwood and kelp and other debris washed in by the high tides and big surf during the New Year weekend on the Oregon Coast.  My grandson enjoyed seeing one up close, and was quite impressed by how big that pouch actually is.
