To describe my lifelong fascination with flight and with creatures that fly I like to echo the words of John James Audubon who in 1839 wrote of himself as "...one who never can cease to admire and to study with zeal and the most heartfelt reverence, the wonderful productions of an Almighty Creator."

Spotted Towhee
Spotted Towhees usually stay down in the shadows of forest undergrowth scratching for food under the fallen leaves. But when it's time to sing, it's time to be seen and heard. This one is at home in McMinnville's Airport Park.
Had to stop my weeding when I realized that I was getting near a Towhee nest .I don't need much of an excuse to stop, but this seemed to be a good one.
A Towhee is a good reason to stop just about any other activity for at least a minute or two. Even if you can't see them, their songs and calls, or the sounds of fallen leaves being shuffled around as they search under them for edible things, let you know that there is life in the woods.
dear floyd I love all the colers in the spotted towhee. I't so pretty. but it has I wierd name.
