Swallow Fledging Day

Today is the day for the young Violet-green Swallows in my nestbox. At noon one of the young ones was perched on the wire along the street while two of his siblings were watching from the box, apparently asking, "How did you do that?"

Bald Eagle at Sitka

I have just returned from a cruise to southeast Alaska (as a guest), and among many other interesting creatures and scenic views, Bald Eagles were abundant, confirming what I have heard from many other travelers there. This one was "guarding" the harbor entrance at Sitka as we were riding on the tender from ship to shore.
