To describe my lifelong fascination with flight and with creatures that fly I like to echo the words of John James Audubon who in 1839 wrote of himself as "...one who never can cease to admire and to study with zeal and the most heartfelt reverence, the wonderful productions of an Almighty Creator."

"Bird" watching at 30,000 ft. :-)
This "birding" experience actually happened about a month ago when I traveled by air to Denver, Colorado, and back. On the way out from Portland, I enjoyed having this Bald Eagle soaring out there to my right. (The stewardess referred to him as "Sarge.") On the return trip the Great Egret (I think she called him "Stretch.") kept pace with us.
The moon put on a good show last evening (one day before full moon), but the show was even better with the silhouette of an Osprey against the brilliant disk. Today, of course, the full moon will be the first of two this month of August. The "blue moon" full moon will show up on August 31.
